Emma Goudie
(she/her)
A settler on Turtle Island, originally from Treaty 3 territories, the traditional land of the Mississaugas and grateful to now call Treaty 7 Territories and Mohkinstis (Calgary, AB) her home.
Emma currently works in collaboration with the storytellers from her maternal family, with much of her work crafted from memories. She sees the process of visualizing memories as a means to foster relationships and understanding of loved ones’ lived experiences. When transforming memories into artworks she is invested in considering what ought to be shared and what is better left “untold”. She obscures storylines with whimsical set designs and is more interested in conveying feelings rather than exact retellings. Emma believes that by not being overly specific, it allows a more universal experience and welcomes an audience to consider their own stories.
Emma is an interdisciplinary artist and earned her BFA from OCAD U (2021) where she specialized in Stop Motion animation. She has featured work in the See You Again Arts Festival, the Femme Fatale Film Festival, Artscape Youngplace, and the 2024 Toronto Outdoor Art Fair (TOAF63).
